Figure painting! Working from ref

Painted from reference I found online during breaks, then decided to stay up late and finish up! Still hoping I can get back to life drawing more regularly, and from a live model, but it's nice to practice digital painting too.

Creature take 2

Normally it's my policy to leave stuff alone once I've finished it, particularly if I've posted it online, but I got some great crit from my pal and concept artist Arc Christensen. I gave myself the morning to implement the changes before moving on to something new. I'm leaving up the old post in case you're curious what I changed. Thanks Arc!

Change of pace, creature design

My usual process has never really served me well when working with creature design, probably because I'm much more comfortable with human anatomy. But I wanted to give it another shot, and was feeling pretty pumped after checking out Brynn Metheney's work. She details her process nicely on her blog. I also needed a change of pace from the work I've been doing which naturally isn't postable, so all of that considered, here's what happened when I revisited that thumbnail in the bottom corner.
